Christian Gossett was one of the first designers hired by Lucasfilm Licensing to retro-design the Star Wars galaxy in 1993. He was only 23 when his radical concept drawing of a 'double-edged lightsaber' was presented to George Lucas. George's approval memo hangs in a frame on the wall of Gossett's studio. Seven years later, this design would be made famous as Darth Maul's signature weapon in The Phantom Menace. He is now part of the award-winning design team at Weta Workshop, working for Peter Jackson's KING KONG.

Gossett's ongoing project, The Red Star, a successful PlayStation 2/3 game, is now in development as a feature film and is one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed independent comics' series of the decade.

About videogames, he says: "The videogames we're playing today are going to be remembered in much the same way the work of the Lumiere brothers is remembered by film historians. And just as the general public does not think of film as having such an incredible effect on the history of the world, videogames will also seamlessly blend into every aspect of our lives.

"We are laying the foundation for nothing less than the very interface between humankind and the civilizations to come."
